Sunset has many programs to offer for all levels and interests of skaters:
For those interested in general learn-to-skate lessons, before deciding if Figure Skating, Hockey, Ringette, Speed skating, or recreational skating is right for your skater, our club offers the following programs: Pre-CanSkate, Canskate, Junior Development, Advanced CanSkate, StarSkate, Competitive, and Special Olympics.
CanSkate (Stages 1 to 5) - Full 45 minute lessons
Sunset Skating Club offers the Skate Canada designed Canskate program that is a great introduction to skating. It is an absolute must for anyone who hopes to enter the world of Figure Skating, Hockey, Ringette or just wants to learn a few skills. For skaters that have taken lessons elsewhere, or over 5 years old, Sunset offers the regular Canskate program. If your child is new to skating and is under 5 years old, you may want to enroll him/her into Canskate for Tots which provides him/her with more personal attention while being in a class with children of similar age.
Pre-CanSkate for Tots (2.5 - 5 yr olds) - Full 45 minute lessons
The Tots program is designed for a more fun and relaxed introduction to skating for children under 5 years old. A Tots class is run on every Canskate session.
Junior Development / Advanced CanSkate (After CanSkate...)
It's a 2 days a week program. It's an introduction to figure skating in a group lesson setting. All skaters accepted into the JD program have been auditioned by one of the program coordinators and have shown talent, desire, and an interest in figure skating.
Jumps, spins, footwork and musicality will be developed through this twice per week program. Class sizes are kept smaller to allow for individual attention. Skaters must show their commitment by enrolling in the entire program, both on ice and off ice development.
Sunset Skating Club's JD coaching staff is one of the best in Vancouver. Nationally certified coaches with competitive experience will work with your child on a weekly basis to ensure they develop the necessary figure skating basics.
StarSkate
StarSkate is an excellent option for former CanSkate JD participants, allowing skaters to further develop skating skills in the disciplines of Skating Skills, Freeskate (jumps and spins etc.) and Ice Dancing in either group or private lesson format. Skaters may take tests against a national standard and/or start competing.
Competitive
Any skater who has demonstrated the dedication and talent to become a competitive Figure Skater earned the opportunity to access the best training possible. Sunset Skating Club offers all that is needed: ice time, experienced staff, enrichment classes, and off-ice programs.
