CanSkate
Sunset Skating Club offers the Skate Canada designed Canskate (Learn To Skate) Program that is a great introduction to skating. It is an absolute must for anyone who hopes to enter the world of Figure Skating, Hockey, Ringette or just wants to learn a few skills. For skaters that have taken lessons elsewhere, or over 5 years old, Sunset offers the regular Canskate program. If your child is new to skating and is under 5 years old, you may want to enroll him/her into Pre-CanSkate (CanSkate for Tots), which provides him/her with more personal attention while being in a class with children of similar age.

What will you learn?
A complete series of balance, control and agility skills taught in six stages of learning that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating as well as general recreational skating. CanSkate uses nationally-tested and proven curriculum and delivery methods that guarantee skater success in developing stronger basic skills and developing them faster.
How our CanSkate program runs:
- class sizes are kept to 10 skaters per coach
- 45 minute lessons provide enough time for learning and practicing new skills
- all groups are coached by a Skate Canada and NCCP Certified Instructor
- extra helps from program assistants ensure that skaters receive individual attention
- skaters progress at their own speed through the levels
- incentives (such as stickers and prizes) are used to keep kids motivated
- theme days (such as "beach day" or "the Canskate challenge") keep kids entertained as they learn trickier and fancier skills
CanSkate for Tots (3 to 5 year olds):
The Tots program is designed for a more fun and relaxed introduction to skating for children under 5 years old. A Tots class is run on every CanSkate session as outlined below. We are recommend that skaters be able to stand and balance on skates on the ice.
